The New Bedford Housing Authority is a public housing authority, an agency operated with
public funds and rents paid by residents of the Authority. The Authority
is dedicated to providing quality public housing to eligible
clients.
The New Bedford Housing Authority owns and manages 2551
apartments of public housing located within the Historic Whaling City
of New Bedford, Massachusetts. In addition, the Authority
manages approximately 1800 housing subsidy vouchers. These vouchers
provide financial assistance to qualified households for renting privately
owned apartments in the Greater New Bedford Area.
Subsidized funding
for both the public housing assistance and the voucher programs is from the U.
S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Commonwealth of
Massachusetts' Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).
